B. licheniformis is Gram-positive and rod-shaped. It is a motile bacterium, a facultative anaerobe (unlike other bacilli that are typically aerobic). It demonstrates antifungal activity by producing an antibiotic that acts against fungi. It may also produce an anti-fungal enzyme.
