What is Bacillus licheniformis?

This species is used for its denitrification activity and its ability to degrade organic substances.

B. licheniformis is Gram-positive and rod-shaped. It is a motile bacterium, a facultative anaerobe (unlike other bacilli that are typically aerobic). It demonstrates antifungal activity by producing an antibiotic that acts against fungi. It may also produce an anti-fungal enzyme.

Mode of Action

  • Competition with pathogens
  • Production of enzymes related to the degradation of organic substances
  • Denitrification

  • Enhanced growth and improvement of health
  • Improvement in water quality
  • Increased survival rate
  • Degradation of organic substances at the bottom of the farming pond
